#140Conf Community Update (January 2011)

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

By Jeff Pulver

As a reader of this blog and friend of the greater #140Conf Community, I wanted to give you an update on upcoming events and opportunities for you to connect and engage with other members of our community.

I’m still looking for speakers for #140Conf NYC, our new #Fashion140, and of course your participation in #140conf local events. I plan to do another #BrandsConf with a pending date in the Fall of 2011 soon to be announced.

This year, we are going to have a #140Conf booth at SXSW 2011 in Austin. For those attending SXSW, I want this to be a place for you to meet friends, connect with other #140conf community members, and your schedule allowing, a chance for you to help contribute your voice and share your story by helping us staff the booth at a time that will work around your schedule. I want our booth to be your booth. Think of creative ways to interview people, schedule meetings, or just grab a place to sit and chill during the day.

I’ve just left Germany, having just participated in the amazing DLD11 conference. There, I connected with many new people, including Deepak Chopra and reconfirmed some of the people who will be speaking at #140conf NYC in June.

While at DLD, I announced #140conf Berlin will be taking place in the Spring of 2011 with the help of DLD / Hubert Burda Media.

Now going into our third year, the #140Conf events have succeeded only because of You. Your influence. Your voice. And most of all, sharing your passion for what you do, and what you believe in is making a difference and being heard worldwide.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best regards, Jeff

#140Conf Sponsor Doubletree Hotels’ NYC Chelsea Located in the Heart of Attractions and Great Restaurants

Sunday, January 23rd, 2011

By Alan Weinkrantz
Last week I was in New York, and stayed at the Doubletree Chelsea Hotel.  I’m getting to know the Doubletree brand because they are a sponsor of the #140Conf events.

Beyond the great room, the great service and a really great location, at the end of the day, it’s about the people who make a difference.

I had a chance to visit with the General Manager of the hotel, Kathryn Dowd, who shared her enthusiasm about the great local restaurants and places to visit that make a facility like the Doubletree Hotel Chelsea so special.

Announcing: #140conf LOCAL Events

Monday, December 13th, 2010

By Jeff Pulver

Starting today, members of the worldwide #140conf Community are encouraged to visit: http://140conf.com/my-own-140conf (or just contact me -jeff@140conf.com) if they would like to bring a #140conf event to their city.

Until now, all of the #140conf events were produced by 140 Conference Events and were curated by Jeff Pulver (me). In an attempt to help expand the #140conf experience beyond my own ability to travel and produce events, I’m happy to announce #140conf LOCAL. Going forward events will continue to be created / produced / hosted / curated by #140conf events, as well by groups of people who qualify to create a #140conf LOCAL event of their own.

Friends who have previously attended at least one #140conf conference can apply at http://140conf.com/my-own-140conf to produce their own #140conf event. If you are interested in exploring this option, you can apply to run #140conf as a “free / not-really-for-profit” event or as a “Commercial / intended for profit” event. The event organizer / team would be responsible for covering all of the production costs of the event. Each application will be reviewed on it’s own merit.

Assuming the person / team is prepared to cover all of the out-of-pocket costs related to the event and as long as the person applying to create their own local event has previously attended at least one #140conf event produced by myself, community members are encouraged to to apply. Exceptions are possible in the cases where the applicant has not attended any #140conf event but can certify they have reviewed at least 16 hours of #140conf event archives on-line.

Since the first #140conf event in June, 2009, #140conf has become a platform to explore the effects of the emerging real-time Internet on both business and life. We have been fortunate to be able to share the stories of hundreds of people while looking at how about businesses have changed around the world.

I am looking forward to hearing from YOU and working together to help grow the global #140conf community.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

How Twitter Is Being Used In Manufacturing Technology With Plex Systems

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Plex Systems, one of our Michigan-based sponsors, was in attendance at the recently concluded 140conf Detroit.

They develop Plex Online, a cloud-based IT solution that delivers real-time information and 24/7 connection for manufacturers from the shop floor to the top floor.

After the inspiring day of presentations, the team at Plex Systems shared with us an update from their technology partner, Waterford, Michigan-based Kors Engineering. Kors integrates real-time, plant floor manufacturing technology to provide machine status updates via Twitter.

Using Twitter, a manufacturer subscribes to equipment or processes of interest to be notified of performance issues.  Operators are notified of downtime, maintenance, and status issues, while management can be notified of performance, production, or deficiencies.

This is a powerful way to use Twitter as manufacturers can monitor extensive information from their plant floor in real time, for areas of interest that they subscribe to.  Beyond monitoring manufacturing metrics, manufacturers can take advantage of being tweeted information about their facility and peripheral equipment that support manufacturing such as HVAC, energy usage, and environmental performance that may affect quality or performance.

Tracking real-time data is ideal for creating awareness, which enables intelligent, effective use of resources. This helps facilitate an environment that encourages accountability and transparency.  Manufacturers have the power to work smarter with these real-time connections.

Along with all the other inspiring innovations from Detroit area, these two technology developers let manufacturers harness “the power of now”!
